Red Hill Close

The Clients bought this secluded bungalow and wanted to explore how it could be adapted to create a new open plan living space with the possibility of new bedrooms in the roof space. By carefully dismantling and raising and adapting the existing roof structure, we were able to adapt the roof space to create four bedrooms, one taking advantage of the elevated views out across the adjacent farmland and green belt, along with three bathrooms and a small peaceful sitting area.

Downstairs, as the main entrance to the house was in the centre of the floor plan, we opened up all of one side of the house to create a new kitchen/dining/living space with views out to the rear across the sloping garden to the open countryside beyond. The other side of the house gave access to the new first floor and provided an office/study and an additional bedroom space designed to accommodate someone with mobility difficulties.

Highly sustainable, re-using and adapting the existing structural envelope, adding additional insulation and recladding the building, making the envelope airtight, providing an air source heat pump and a full mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system has meant that the finished home is highly energy efficient and comfortable whatever the weather.
